WAXING LYRICAL as a poet and a song lyricist I've done a little research on the latter. Be careful to keep copies of your work when sending them off to whomsoever. Preferably the originals. Sign and date them. There are many managers of bands who just happen to be solicitors. This does not mean they are going to be honest where money is concerned. There are also judges who have shares in the record industry. This does not mean you will get a fair hearing where money is concerned. Lyrics are good for bands who can't write them. A lyric can inspire a tune. To have many lyrics under your belt his half the battle. You can then concentrate on writing the music. Don't believe anyone who says the lyric in a song doesn't matter!! You'll hear many a merry person on a Weekend singing a lyric!! Bands who make off with your writings will copy them out and leave them around for many folk to see. They obtain books, second hand or otherwise that pertain to some of the lyrics, so one gets the impression that is what inspired the writing. If there are names in a song they will associate themselves with someone bearing that name, even if it's just for a quick chat, but they will make sure someone else is observing. They will put themselves in positions or places that pertain to the lyrics. Again, this is so they can claim they wrote the material, and that this is where they got the idea from!! Get the picture. I repeat, be careful. Saying that, anyone, or any band wishing to use my lyrics please notify me. Im very obliging, just ask an infamous rocker!!
